Strobist photography is a photography lit with an off-camera flash, or strobe, hence Strobist name. When using a on-camera flash the subject can often look quite flat and boring and this is the why most photographers will avoid using a flash on camera for creative photography. By not having the flash attached to the top of the camera, or on lens axis, the photographer will achieve more pleasing and more dynamic photographs. Having the flash / strobe off-camera will allow the photographer to be more creative, control and create light in ways that would be impossible with natural light.

121FOTO offers strobist photography workshops in Cork City and Ireland. These workshops will introduce the participants to the beauty of strobist photography. You will learn that you don’t need expensive equipment to achieve professional looking portraits. You will also learn how to control the light, how to shape it and color it. We will discuss and exemplify with the help of a model, various lighting techniques starting from effective one light-setups and finishing with complex 3 or 4 point lighting setups. You will also learn how to meter and how creatively control the white balance.
